Project 1:

Supporting rural entrepreneurship and promoting women’s socio-economic empowerment in Dara-i-Suf Bala and Dara-i-Suf Payan districts of Samangan Province:  The overall objective of this action is to economically empower and strengthen the socio-economic rights of poor rural women and men in Afghanistan, with a particular focus on women. The project targeted total of 5400 rural entrepreneurs (70% women) and creates 8,100 jobs.

Project 2:

Improving Lives through creation of Microenterprises and Jobs in Jawzjan:  The objective of this program is to reduce poverty and gender disparity in the targeted area through creating enterprises and therefore jobs.  HiH Af reaches out to the most vulnerable and under-served regions and groups in society, with focus on poor, rural and financially excluded populations. The project targeted total of 1,800 rural entrepreneurs (70% women) an creates 2,700 jobs.

 Project 3:

Piloting and Implementation of the Concept of One District One Product (ODOP) for Community Led Micro Enterprise Development in Rural Areas of Parwan and Herat Provinces:  The ODOP approach is originated from One Village One Product (OVOP) development model which was initiated in 1979 in Oita Provinces of Japan. The prime objectives for this project are to recommend the standardized products with added value, value chain analysis, develop market and facilitate access to technical, financial and business development services as well as to develop implementation strategy, capacity development strategy and modules, develop pool of business development service providers along with operational guide line for the large scale replication.

 Project 4:

Business Development Training Project for SMEs- Bamyan Province: The objectives of this project are: 1) to build the capacity of 48 SMEs in accounting, financial management and budgeting; 2) to increase competitiveness of SMEs through the provision of training courses on marketing and market management and marketing strategy; 3) to increase SMEs knowledge on business ethics, health and safety, business law, tax, business ethics and business related social challenges (e.g. child labor and gender); 4) to improve understanding and utilization of best basic practices in business management and administration; and finally to improve understanding and utilization of best practices in operations and supply chain management.

 Project 5:

Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP): Under this program total 7,500 rural entrepreneurs targeted in Kaldar, Marmul and Sholgara districts of Balkh province. The aim of this project is to improve the livelihood of the targeted groups through implementation of HiH enterprise development and Job creation model. Under this project a Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC) established in Mazar e Sharif to train people from rural areas but also staff from other NGOs and Government organizations and will share best practices with different development agencies.

 Project 6:

Value Chain Improvement Project for Seven Women Cooperatives: This project was implemented in Balkh, Kunduz, Takhar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Nangarhar and Herat provinces to build the capacity of head of women cooperatives and its members through exposure visit to Hand in Hand India  and provision of training and follow up mentoring the exposure visit.

 Project 7:

Sanitation and Hygiene Awareness and Enterprise Development:  This project complemented the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), providing to hygiene and sanitation awareness and training to 7,500 Self Help Group members and also supporting the establishment of rural enterprises by providing Enterprise Incubation Fund (EIF) to enable group members to start their microenterprises.

 Project 8:

Horticulture and Livestock Project (HLP): HiH Af has successfully implemented a series of World Bank funded projects in close coordination with HLP department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) in Balkh province, providing social mobilization and leadership training, development and consolidation of saving box, support to organize Farmer Field Schools (FFS), assisting the producer groups for external market linkage, inducting the producer groups collective/integrated marketing system, awareness building about agriculture cooperatives, how to act cooperative as an effective business center and formation of Farmer Service Center at district level.

 Project 9:

Consulting Services and Training for AREDP: HiH Af trained the Provincial Enterprise Facilitators and Village Facilitators of AREDP/MRRD in Parwan Province, On Social Mobilization, Self Help Group Formation, Business Development Services (BDS), Access to Credit, Value Chain and market linkage.

 Project 10: 

Facilitating Rural Enterprise Development through capacity building of Self-Help groups Badakhshan (FRED): The project builds on Afghanaid’s previous work with the DFID and Diana Memorial Fund (2005-2007). The overall goal of the project was to strengthen rural income through mobilizing community saving/credit and enhancing rural enterprise development.

 Project 11:

Small & Medium sized Enterprise Development (SMED) – SME implementation in Balkh: HiH Af jointly implemented this project with MRRD/NABDP/AREDP in Balkh province. The project aimed to support the implementation of two SMEs in Balkh province (1). Melon Grading, Packaging, Marketing Enterprise and (2). Almond Sorting, Grading, and Packaging.  Activities included training in Business Management, Finance and Marketing, Technical training in product handling and Business Mentoring for  SMEs.

 Project 12:

Mass Mobilization into Entrepreneurship (MME) Project: This project was carried out in partnership with the Indian Government in Khulm and Nahr-e-Shahee districts of Balkh province. MME served as a pre-pilot project for the MRRD /AREDP.
